Pay Range: $50,835.20 - $76,003.20/annually
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (40 Hours/Week)

MAJOR FUNCTION
Develop and implement public relations and media initiatives of the tourism/sports marketing plan adopted by the Polk County Tourist Development Council.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Create and maintain tourism press kits (both printed and digital) and digital asset library (Photos and video)... Develop and maintain solid working relationship with local, regional and national media. Curate and maintain database for news contacts, state, national and international travel editors, travel writers, free-lance writers, social media influencers and photographers. Maintain clipping file and work with digital clipping vendors to maintain a record of published articles pertaining to Polk County tourism. Respond to media, travel writer and social media influencer requests for information and familiarization (FAM) tours. Plan, promote and conduct press familiarization tours of Polk County. Write and disseminate tourism related press releases and content.
Active participation in, and travel to, professional writers association conferences to promote Polk County as a tourism destination and to recruit travel writer conferences and FAM Tours to Polk County. Establish and maintain relationships with writers, journalists and media representatives. Develop and maintain active relationship with state tourism PR representatives (Visit Florida) and participate in media missions in key target markets throughout the U.S. Activates sponsorships at conferences and directs staff in the coordination of FAM tours.
Manage the development and dissemination of story ideas promoting Polk County as a destination. Work with sales and marketing staff to develop media events/promotions in key target markets. Work closely with Polk County’s private sector tourism industry partners on public relations initiatives. Oversee internal communications for local tourism industry stakeholders. Works with tourism industry partners to respond to media leads in a timely manner.
Assist with film and television permitting and inquiries. Develop tourism communications portion of annual marketing plan. Work with Polk County Emergency Management to develop and distribute the annual Emergency Shelter Map. Develops PCTSM emergency management plan and serves as lead staff person in the event of an emergency activation.
Develop and maintain content for print and electronic advertising, promotions and tourism web sites.
Drafts and edits speeches, talking points and scripts for special events, interviews and other high profile appearances.
This position requires the use of independent judgment in setting priorities, coordinating work, handling multiple responsibilities, and the ability to manage time while working with deadlines, and interacting with team members and key stakeholders and decision makers on a daily basis.
Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Experience in journalism, public relations, marketing practices, techniques and methods. Knowledge of the internet, graphic design and production techniques. Ability to write.
Ability to conceive, design, formulate and prepare informational data, survey tools, promotional materials and reports. Ability to use independent judgment, analyze information and formulate recommendations. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, the media, business representatives and the public. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to make public speaking presentations.
Skilled in desktop publishing, word processing and web site maintenance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited four (4) year college/university and have a minimum of five (5) years public relations, marketing, journalism, computer or business related experience as required for the work effort which applicant is to be employed.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of employment.

This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
